Handling oversized and out-of-gauge cargo
Oversized cargo is anything that exceeds normal dimensions or weight for its transport mode — too tall, too wide, too long or too heavy for standard handling. We handle the loading, unloading and transshipment of such pieces at our terminal with 50 and 80 tonne mobile cranes.
What counts as oversized
There is no single threshold. A piece is oversized when it no longer fits the normal envelope of the vehicle or the route carrying it, and that envelope differs between road and rail.
- Exceeds the loading gauge in height or width.
- Longer than the wagon or trailer bed.
- Heavier than the axle limits allow without special arrangements.
- Indivisible — it cannot be broken down and sent in parts.
We deal with the handling side. Route surveys, permits and escorts on the road are the transport operator's responsibility, not ours.

- Loading onto wagons and trailers.
- Transshipment between the two gauges.
- Setting down and repositioning on site.
- Interim storage in the open.
Why the terminal suits this cargo
Oversized pieces need space, reach and ground that will take the load. A yard with track on both gauges, cranes on site and open storage area covers all three in one place.
The alternative — moving an out-of-gauge piece between separate handling sites — adds a road movement that is usually the most expensive and most permit-heavy part of the whole chain.
The two numbers that decide everything
- Weight. Not an estimate, not a class — the actual figure.
- Geometry. Length, width, height, and where the lifting points sit.
Everything else — which crane, how it is rigged, where it stands — follows from those. We do not quote a lift without them.
