Terminal

Our dual-gauge rail terminal at Dornești

Our terminal at Dornești, in northern Romania near the Ukrainian border, has track on both gauges — 1435 mm European and 1520 mm broad. Mobile cranes and storage sit on the same site, so cargo can be received on one network and dispatched on the other without leaving the yard.

Why Dornești

Dornești is a small place, but it sits on the rail corridor that links the Romanian network to the Ukrainian one, in the Vicșani–Vadul Siret border area.

That makes it one of the points in Romania where the two gauges physically meet — and therefore one of the places where cargo has to stop and change systems regardless of who handles it. The technical background is in our guide to 1435 mm vs 1520 mm.

What is on site

  • Track on standard gauge, 1435 mm, connected to the CFR network.
  • Track on broad gauge, 1520 mm, for wagons from Ukraine and the CIS.
  • Mobile cranes of 50 and 80 tonnes for heavy and oversized pieces.
  • Indoor and outdoor storage.
  • An authorised customs warehouse for goods not yet cleared.
  • Permanent security.

We do not publish siding lengths, simultaneous wagon counts or hourly throughput. Those are figures we give on request, for a specific consignment, rather than on a marketing page.

What can be done here

  • Transshipment wagon to wagon between the two gauges, in both directions.
  • Wagon to truck and truck to wagon.
  • Crane lifting for pieces that cannot be handled with a forklift or grab.
  • Storage between legs, including under customs supervision.
  • Consolidation of several batches before a single onward shipment.

Who uses it

Mainly importers, exporters and freight forwarders moving cargo between Ukraine and the European Union, plus local companies needing heavy unloading or storage space.

We are not a freight forwarder and not a customs broker. We are the terminal operator — the physical part of the chain — and we work alongside your forwarder and your broker.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Which gauges do you have?

Both: 1435 mm, the European standard, and 1520 mm, used in Ukraine and the CIS.

How many wagons can you handle at once?

It depends on the cargo and the operation. Describe the consignment and we will answer for your case.

Do you have cranes on site?

Yes, 50 and 80 tonne mobile cranes, in the same yard as the track.

Can cargo be stored at the terminal?

Yes, indoors or outdoors, and under customs supervision where it has not been cleared.

Are you a freight forwarder?

No. We are the terminal operator and work together with your forwarder.

Have cargo coming through?

Tell us what it is, how much and in which direction, and we will explain how it would be handled here.
