Transshipment of timber and sawn wood

Timber is one of the steadiest flows through this corridor, and Suceava county sits in the middle of a forestry region, so it is cargo we see constantly. We transship round timber, sawn wood, panels and pellets between the two gauges at our terminal in Dornești.

What we handle

  • Round timber — logs, in bundles or loose.
  • Sawn timber — boards and beams, packaged.
  • Panels — plywood, OSB, chipboard.
  • Pellets and briquettes, bagged or in bulk.
  • Chips and by-products.
  • Finished wood products, palletised.

What the cargo demands

Timber is bulky rather than dense, so the constraint is usually volume and length, not weight. Long pieces need reach and a place to swing.

Moisture matters. Sawn and finished wood loses value if it sits in the rain, which is why the covered space is often the deciding factor rather than the handling itself. Round timber and chips are less fussy and normally stay outside.

How it is transferred

  • Bundles are lifted between wagons with slings or a grab, depending on form.
  • Packaged sawn timber is handled so the packaging survives.
  • Loose and bulk material can be transferred by grab.
  • Pellets in bags are handled palletised.
  • Interim storage is available for the whole range.

What to tell us

  • Product type and how it is presented.
  • Volume, in cubic metres or tonnes.
  • Maximum length of the pieces.
  • Whether it needs covered storage and for how long.
  • Direction of travel and onward mode.
  • Any phytosanitary or documentary requirement affecting handling.

Yes. For products that must stay dry, ask for covered space when you enquire.

Can you transfer in both directions?

Yes, into the EU and out of it.

Can bulk pellets be handled?

Yes. Tell us the presentation — bagged, big-bag or loose — when you enquire.

Are you a timber trader?

No. We handle and store cargo; we do not buy or sell wood.
